JTLS Model Team
RICHARD J KALINYAK
EDUCATION:
- B.S., Mathematics, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
Mr. Kalinyak is a senior member of the R&A Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS) development team. He is the chief technical design engineer responsible for authoring, reviewing, and overseeing the technical architecture, design and implementation decisions required for JTLS. His primary focus is the design, development, testing, and documentation of the new JTLS After Action Review functionality.
Mr. Kalinyak has been with R&A and working on the JTLS project for over 20 years. He has supported JTLS at locations such as the Turkish War Colleges, the UAE and Italian M&S Centers, the Royal Thai Supreme Command's Joint Staff College, the NATO C3 Agency and the NATO Joint Warfare Centre (JWC).
PATRICK SANDOZ, LCDR, USN (Ret.)
EDUCATION:
- M.S., Operations Research, Naval Postgraduate School
- B.S., Mathematics, University of Oklahoma
Mr. Pat Sandoz is a senior member of the JTLS software engineering team who has been part of JTLS development and user support since January 1991. As is the case with most of our engineers, he takes part in all areas of development: ECP design and implementation, STR accommodation, developer and integration testing, documentation, pre-release testing, and user event support. He routinely has the lead for several ECPs annually. He has primary responsibility for the JTLS naval module.
Over the years, Pat has been part of Exercise Control and/or Training Teams for over 30 international user events. In addition, he routinely supports sponsor pre-release testing and domestic client training events, both in Monterey and at other CONUS locations. Pat routinely takes on the "lion's share" of the training classes for the international clients who visit Monterey. He is responsible for maintaining training materials, including the syllabi for each of the week or more long JTLS courses we annually provide to new and current users.
DONNA WOMBLE, Ph.D.
EDUCATION:
- Ph.D., Physics, University of California, San Diego
- M.S., Physics, University of California, San Diego
- B.S., Physics, University of California, Irvine
Dr. Donna Womble is primarily responsible for the design, development, and implementation of the Entity Level Simulation (ELS). This is a component program of the Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS). The ELS plays an essential role in the functionality of JTLS within the HLA federation known as the Joint Multi-Resolution Model (JMRM). Dr. Womble is particularly experienced with the integration of JTLS as it connects to the external model JCATS. This connection between JTLS and JCATS forms the basis of the JMRM federation.
As a secondary focus, Dr. Womble is involved with the analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of the Combat Events Program (CEP). The CEP forms the core component of JTLS. Donna is capable of programming in C, C++, Simscript, and is presently learning Java. She is also familiar with various scripting Languages such as Perl. Dr. Womble has provided on-site technical support for a NATO exercise in 2008.
JOHN F HERTZ
EDUCATION:
- M.S., Operations Research, Air Force Institute of Technology
- B.S., Computer Science, Oklahoma State University
Mr. John Hertz is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of software algorithms within the Joint Theater Level Simulation. His primary focus is the simulation of military operations within the Combat Events Program, the core component of JTLS that models air, land, naval, intelligence, and logistics operations in multi-faction warfare. As a senior member of the JTLS software engineering team, he assists or leads the development of functional enhancements that improve JTLS capabilities. He also provides on-site technical support for US and international customers during computer-assisted training exercises and related test events. Mr. Hertz has recently supported JWFC release testing and multi-national exercises in Norway, Taiwan, and Japan.
JOEL MODISETTE, USN, (Ret.)
EDUCATION
- M.S., National Security and Strategic Studies, Naval War College
- M.S., Operations Research, Naval Postgraduate School
- B.S. Electrical Engineering, Tulane University
Joel is a Software Engineer on the JTLS Model Team. He is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of JTLS model algorithms. In addition he will support military staff training and computer aided excercises, both locally and off-site. Joel brings operational experience on U.S. and NATO staffs along with teaching credentials in mathematics and analytic modeling to R&A.
